Assessing the needs for tailor-made training

In December the African Centre for Cities along with six other knowledge partners launched the African Cities Lab, with the aim to collaborate in developing MOOCs for urban planners to meet the specific challenges of urbanisation on the continent.

African Cities Lab (ACL) is a joint initiative led by EPFL, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, Sèmè City, the University of Carthage, the University of Cape Town, and the University of Rwanda to contribute to sustainable urban development on the continent. The initiative is funded by the Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

The first step towards curriculum development undertaken by ACL is a scan of the knowledge gap in continued professional development. To this aim ACL has compiled an online survey to glean insights into the needs of urban planning and development professionals on the continent.
