The University of Cape Town and the University of Copenhagen have recently launched an exciting research project entitled ‘CLAIMS to Energy Citizenship’ (April 2024 – March 2028). Funded by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), CLAIMS to Energy Citizenship unpacks how energy – in particular electricity – is a key site of negotiating contemporary citizenship and urban statecraft.
As part of this project, we will be recruiting between 3 and 5 assistant junior researchers for a six month period in 2025. Each person will be paired up with a more senior scholar (a PhD student or faculty member) whom they will support on the project.
We invite students of all levels and disciplines to apply to attend our research assistant training programme, which will run over two half-days (28-29 October 2024). While we hope to accommodate everyone in this training who is interested, we have limited capacity. As such, you will need to apply and confirm your attendance.
The programme provides an opportunity to develop your research skills and learn what it means to be(come) a research assistant on an interdisciplinary project. This is an entry-level training, suitable for people with no formal research training.
The programme is a precondition for you for the CLAIMS research assistant positions which will be advertised in early 2025.
What you need to know:
- The research assistant training programme will take place at UCT on 28 October (9:30-12:30) and 29 October 2024 (12-2:30pm)
- You will be introduced to research methods to examine claims to energy citizenship in Cape Town, including participant observation methods, interview methods, and visual methods
- You will be issued with a certificate in recognition of your participation
- To apply, kindly follow this LINK.
Application deadline: 23 September 2024.
You will be notified of your acceptance by early October.
