Distinguished award for Prof Sophie Oldfield

The Society of South African Geographers recently announced the successful nominees for the Society’s most senior honorary awards: fellowships of the society and the gold medal.

African Centre for Cities is proud to share that Prof Sophie Oldfield has been awarded a Fellowship of the Society. Fellowships of the society are honorary awards made by the Society to recognise outstanding scholarly contributions to the advancement of Geography, along with Prof Thembela Kepe, Professor of Geography at the University of Toronto. The fellowship entails life long members in recognition for their remarkable contribution to the discipline.

Ordinarily these awards would have been made at the biennial conference, originally scheduled to take place in July at Rhodes University. With this conference now postponed, the announcement of the awards took place digitally, and will be conferring  in person once the conference has been rescheduled.
