Through structured and regular exchange, this research community aims to illuminate a fresh conceptual framework for sustainable urban management through the lens of infrastructure transitions and urban metabolisms.

The collaboration involves the African Centre for Cities (University of Cape Town), the Sustainability Institute (University of Stellenbosch), Gauteng City- Region Observatory (co-owned by the University of Johannesburg and Witwatersrand), the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS), Maseno University in Kisumu, Kenya and the Centre for Sustainable Urban and Regional Futures (SURF) at Salford University in Manchester. In addition, individual researchers are also enrolled from universities in Thailand and Brazil. The primary focus of the collaboration is the production of an edited volume.
