Jannette Sadik-Khan, as Transport Commissioner for New York City is responsible for the operation and maintenance of 6,000 miles of streets and highways, nearly 800 bridges, 1.3 million street signs, 300,000 streetlights and 12,000 signalized intersections. In this talk, presented in Cape Town on February 2010, she speaks of her passion for creating a people-friendly environment, placing transit and sustainability at the centre of plans to ensure the future of New York.
