The ACC invites applications for one postdoctoral fellowship to undertake research in an ESRC/DFID-funded project focusing on Urban Poverty and Food Systems in secondary cities in sub-Saharan Africa. The three case study cities are Kitwe, Epworth and Kisumu.  The postdoctoral fellow will work under the supervision of Prof Owen Crankshaw and liaise with Prof Murray Leibbrandt and Prof Susan Parnell.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in urban studies debates as they relate to inequality and poverty in Africa, in statistical analysis of primary population census and sample survey data, in inferential statistics, and in SPSS and Microsoft Excel. The candidate must be willing to travel to the case study sites and to work with state officials and local collaborators. A record of published work in these areas will be advantageous.

Applicants are expected to have completed a doctoral degree in an area of study relevant to the proposed research within the past five years (e.g. Geography, Sociology, Urban Studies). Applicants should not previously have held  any permanent academic or professional posts.
